2008 Summer Family Conference is
July 27-29
The Grove Park Inn, Asheville, NC
Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers, Inc. will
return to the exceptional Grove Park Inn for the 2008
Summer Family Conference on July 26-29. The Grove Park is an
AHMI member favorite with its panoramic view of the Appalachian
Mountains, award-winning spa facility, newly-designed golf course
and central location.
The business program will include details on
carbon credit exchange programs which allow forest landowners to
receive payments for acres of forests dependent on the average age
of the trees and overall condition of the forest. Trees take in
carbon dioxide from the air and store it as carbon and that process
now has a market value as companies work to reduce their carbon
footprint. Many companies choose to buy credits from the Chicago
Climate Exchange to offset their carbon output. Between 2005-2006
the voluntary offset market grew by 200%.
Justin Maxson, president of MACED in Berea, KY, will explain the
program and how Appalachian landowners can become involved and what
impact this may have on timber production.
The insurance landscape is ever-changing
for Appalachian Hardwood Producers and Distributors. A second
program will be presented by Lumbermen's Underwriting Alliance to
discuss insurance needs for Appalachian lumber companies in 2008.
AHMI meeting attendees will also be able to
experience Asheville's finest attractions with:
- Accommodations at the The Grove Park Inn
- Optional tour of the Biltmore House on Sunday
- Annual Bele Chere Festival in the downtown area is
Friday-Sunday. Bele Chere means "beautiful living" and the festival
is a celebration of that with music, food, crafts and celebrations.
