AHMI Community Involvement
Program
In late 1994, AHMI's
Board of Trustees approved a proposal to assist members in educating
the public on their individual companies and the forest products
industry. For too long, the industry has allowed others to shape its
future. The Community Involvement Program gives you the tools you need
to get started in:
Schools - A complete
school presentation has been developed for elementary, middle and high
school audiences. The program includes sample speeches, video
suggestions, a question and answer period and an entertaining skit to
make learning fun for young people.
Civic clubs - A
complete presentation for adults in civic settings includes sample
speeches, video suggestions, a question and answer period and
promotional materials to inform adults about your company and the
industry.
Legislators - You will receive information on
ways to educate local, state and federal lawmakers about the forest
products industry. Elected and appointed officials have a tremendous
influence on the wood products industry.
Media - You will be
trained on working with the media and introduced to these people in
your area. Sample press releases are included to help you utilize the
print and broadcast media.
General activities -
You will be encouraged to begin a company newsletter, schedule an open
house, redesign advertisements, or start other efforts to promote your
company.
